Tribute to Jim Hurst
Tonight we are here to pay a special tribute to Jim Hurst
(along with Pat and the family) for the many contributions they made in the field of sports in the
community of Larder Lake.
Jim was a coach-mentor and friend to myself, my family and most of you here tonight.
One of his many achievements was the coach of a fastball team that won two Ontario Championships.
Of course at times, it was hard to tell if the real coach was Jim or Pat; when Jim promised he would do
something, Pat delivered.
They were also well remembered and appreciated as ski, basketball & badminton coaches.
They taught us kids many things, along with sports: show up, be on time, to do the best you can,
try to improve, etc…..
It is only later on in life that I came to realize and appreciate that these were also Job Skills, Relationship and Life Skills.
I also appreciated the fact that with Jim as coach, everyone got his fair share of playing time and that’s how I got to play.
To the Hurst family, for being such heroes in our community and for the thousands of hours of hard work to help make
Larder Lake a better place to live; I am proud and honoured to present you this Plaque of Appreciation.
